Iraqi-Canadian group distributes 1,000 masks in Windsor

Windsor’s Iraqi-Canadian community is helping out local residents deal with the COVID-19 pandemic with a gift of masks. On Tuesday, the Windsor-based Iraqi Canadian Group Organization began distributing more than 1,000 masks made by its members for the public. According to the organization, each mask was constructed with newly purchased quality fabric by ICGO volunteers. The giveaway began at noon in front of the ICGO office (397 Wyandotte St. West), with a maximum of five masks per household. ICGO founder and president Khassan Saka said the effort is in response to the “lack of supply” and “exuberant costs” of masks, which he believes can minimize the spread of COVID-19. “The ICGO has taken the initiative to give back to our wonderful city … as we all need to help each other and care for each other during these difficult times,” Saka said. In the weeks to come, ICGO plans on making more masks and distributing them regularly.
