Canada is currently allowing Canadian citizenship online. Oaths are being made over Zoom.
Canadian citizenship ceremonies are meaningful events in people’s lives. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) constructed instructions for future citizens to follow while taking their oath online.
IRCC will provide further details about the ceremony in invitation letters.
Despite this news, you are required to be physically in Canada to take the Oath of Citizenship.
It is important that you dress appropriately. Wearing religious or traditional clothing is acceptable, while face coverings and hats are discouraged.
Your head and shoulders should be visible during the entire ceremony, and your device should be stable.
You will need your permanent residence card, or Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and two pieces of ID, unless you’re under the age of 18. If you came to Canada before June 28, 2002, you must provide the record of landing.
You will be able to cut your permanent residence card on-screen. You may bring a holy book if you want to use it to swear the Oath of Citizenship.
So far, 1000 citizenship ceremonies have taken place online. For the first time ever, 19 participants took the oath at the same time from all around Canada.
